The Heartland Regional Transportation Planning Organization (HRTPO) announces the start of a seven-day public comment and review period for proposed amendments to the FY 2017/18 through FY 2021/22 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) requested by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). The TIP is a list of funded transportation projects covering a period of five years. Adopted each year in June, the TIP is updated by amendment throughout the year to ensure authorization of federal funds.
The proposed amendments include:
- Roll-Forward Amendment – Each year there are projects that are scheduled to be authorized prior to June 30th (when the previous TIP is in effect) but for various reasons, they do not get authorized. These projects will automatically roll forward in FDOT’s Work Program but need to be accounted for in the TIP. This amendment is being done to account for the roll-forward projects within the TIP.
- DeSoto County Bridge Repair/Rehabilitation Amendment – The HRTPO has received a request from FDOT to amend the FY 2017/18 – FY 2021/22 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) to include the design phase for a bridge repair/rehabilitation project for American Legion Drive over Peace River Bridge in DeSoto County. This project was recently added to the FDOT 5 Year Work Program and this amendment to include the project in the TIP is necessary to ensure authorization of federal funds in the current fiscal year.
- Administration of FTA Section 5311 for DeSoto County – DeSoto County has requested the administration of the FTA Section 5311 Operating Assistance grant funds be transferred to the Central Florida Regional Planning Council. This must be included in the HRTPO’s current TIP to ensure authorization of federal funds in 2018.
The comment period for the TIP proposed amendment begins on August 31, 2017, and comments will be accepted through September 6, 2017. The proposed TIP amendments will be presented for adoption to the HRTPO Board at their meeting on September 20, 2017, with at least seven (7) days public notice. An opportunity for public comment will be available at the meeting before Board action is taken.
